Here are some notable activities from the week:
- During Language Arts, we are reviewing the graphemes (letters with their sounds). This is a good review for all students as they it helps them be more aware of letter sounds when they are reading and writing. This week we reviewed the letters; e, h, i, j and k. Along with reviewing the letter names and sounds, we are also learning/reviewing how to print the letters properly so that their printing becomes more efficient. Remember, we always start printing a letter from the top. Here are a few fun videos we watched to review letters sounds and printing. Please review these letters and sounds if your child is still learning their letters and sounds. The last video on the list is has actions to go with the graphemes, which we review every day and just add one more letter each day.
You can also find all the videos for the letters and grapheme gestures on my Google Classroom site. Children can sign in with their gmail and password. The classroom code is: rl3yblc
In Math we have been subitizing and practicing counting to 100 in different ways. Subitizing is being able to tell how many objects in a set there are without counting. Here are some different ways to practice subitzing.
- Games with dice
- Dominoes
- Card Games
In Social Studies this week we have been learning about Orange Shirt Day. We read lots of books about the childrens' experiences in residential schools. Here are some pictures from our responses to these books. Also, here is a link to our earlier blog post on Orange Shirt Day.
In Science this week began doing a guided research project on ladybugs. Did you know.....
- Ladybugs are black when they are born
- They are a type of beetle
- Ladybugs have a hidden set of wings underneath their red wings
- They have 6 legs and 3 body parts
- The eggs are orangy-yellow and then turn white
- Their wings flap 86 times a second!
Today in art we talked about how the leaves are changing and created fall trees using tempera paint, brushes and we even painted with Q-tips. Check out the process and results. They are fabulous!
