Friday Blog ~ Dec. 18th

  Reminders: Jan. 4-8th:  Online learning at home. Jan. 11th:  PD Day ~ NO SCHOOL Jan. 12th: Return to in-person learning ( please return all home reading books and library books) Jan. 13th:  Library Day Remember to dress for the weather.  We go outside every day for recess, lunch recess and gym. In ELA this week we made cards for various people in our school such as Mr. Whitton, Mr. Wamutete, and Mrs. Pullen.  The children learned about their jobs, drew pictures of them and wrote messages of appreciation.  The class was so excited to give them their cards, and they were received with much gratitude and appreciation.  We also learned 5 new phonograms.   We also learned more graphemes this week.  "igh" "ie", "kn", "gn" and "wr". make sure to ask me what sounds these graphemes make!  If you need a reminder or want to practice, check out the video in our Google Classroom.   Reminders: Library books due Wednesday Wednesday Dec. 16th:  Spirit Day - Traditional or Formal wear (wear traditional or formal holiday clothes from any holiday that you celebrate) Dec. 18th:  Last Day of School before Winter Break. Jan 4th-8th:  Online School Jan. 11th:  PD Day ~ NO School Jan. 12th:  In person learning resumes! Please remember to bring back home reading books before the break so we can change them. * Please ensure your child has a small supply of masks in their backpack.  We have had a spike in children loosing them and the office has run out of cloth masks.   Reminders: Return home reading every Friday  Library is on Wednesday.   Dec. 9th:  Backwards Day ~ you can wear some items of clothing backwards as long as it is safe. Dec. 17th:  Traditional or Formal wear:  You can wear some traditional or formal holiday clothing (from any holiday that you celebrate) Dec. 18th:  Last day of school before Winter Break In ELA we read Pete the Cat.  We noticed there were several words that end in "ing". This led to a lesson on verbs, suffixes and syllables.  We found several actions words in the story such as rock, play, eat, and sing.  One student describe these words has having one heart beat per word (the music teacher in me is very proud!) We then practiced adding "ing" to the end of these words and turning them into two syllable words or words that have 2 heart beats.  Next week we are going to be working on some "Random Acts of Kindness," in December to write letters and cards for people that we appreciate in our sc
