Orange Shirt Day

Image
All week long we have been reading stories about Orange Shirt day. We learned about residential schools and some of the things that happened there.  Here are some of the students' thoughts about the stories we heard. "It is important to tell these stories so we can learn history"  "We learn about mistakes of the past, so we don't do it again." "We learned that some kids died." "I learned that their belongings, words and hair was taken from them." "They were taken away from their parents, home and their life." "The nuns didn't care if they were sad, or hungry, tired, or scared, injured or sick." From these mistakes, we learned... "It's important to celebrate day." "we should take care of others." "we should be nice to people." "every child matters, even if you are an adult." Yesterday as we discussed the Orange Shirt Day stories, a lot of feeling words came up.  We have c

Evidence of creatures in our community

We explored the naturalization area this afternoon and we found a few pieces of evidence of small crawling, and flying creatures, but the students want to find more.   They want to take a walk with their families tonight to look for evidence of small, flying and crawling creatures.  What will you find? If you would like, take some pictures and email them to Mrs. Andrews and we can talk about this week.  hlandrews@cbe.ab.ca

Sept. 15th. Taste Experiment

Reminder:  Please return all demographic forms and media consent forms.  Make sure you sign both sides of the orange form. The 7:58 bell means ‘start learning in your classroom’, not ‘enter the school now’. Here are some notable activities from the week: During writing, we were learning how to create a complete sentence.  We learned that a sentence needs 4 main things; Capital Letter at the beginning, a complete idea, finger spaces between each word and punctuation.  Here is a video we watched to help us remember these 4 things.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh7hCqyfaPs In Math we were working on sorting shapes by one or two attributes.  Here are some examples of their work.             This next week will do a little more work on sorting and then move into patterns.  It was so amazing to see so many children in the school on Friday!  I really have missed being with them.  This past week we focused on learning and practicing routines to keep us healthy.  It really amazed me how well they adapted and reminded each other, including me, which door to enter in through to the classroom or to sanitize our hands and put our mask on before we leave the classroom. On Friday we began reviewing the Zones of Regulation by talking about how we would feel in different situations and then moving to a pylon with the matching colour. Throughout the year, we will continue to learn about the Zones of Regulation and strategies we can put in our tool kit to help us be the best learners we can be.                                                             Looking ahead to next week we will begin looking at sorting objects  by 1 or 2 attributes and learning how to describe the sorting rules.  In Social Studies we will start looking at the concept of community and how it
