Friday Blog

 Reminders:

  • LIbrary Books:  If your child has library books at home from last year, please send them in as we would love to have them back on our bookshelves and in our classrooms.
  • September 28th: Terry Fox Run during gym
  • September 30th:  Orange Shirt Day - wear an orange shirt or something orange to honour those who were in residential schools and to affirm that every child matters
  • October 1st is our first Spirit Day.  The students have chosen Pajama Day.  Students may wear a clean pair of pjs, but we ask that stuffies and toys stay at home.

Here are some notable activities from the week:
You can also find all the videos for the letters and grapheme gestures on my Google Classroom site.  Children can sign in with their gmail and password.  The classroom code is: rl3yblc
  • In Math we have been using patterns to solve problems.  One question was how many different cores of a pattern can you make using a hexagon, trapezoid, and 2 rhombuses?  The other problem we explored was how big would the caterpillar be when he was 10 years old, if he was 3 circles long at 1, 4 circles long at 2 and 5 circles long at 3 years old?  We learned how to make and use a T-chart to solve the problem

In Social Studies we have been learning about needs and wants. We did a shared writing activity about needs and wants and then illustrated it.  Here is what they wrote.

A need is something that keeps us safe and protected.

A want is something that is helpful, fun, or nice to have.

I need a drink.  I want hot chocolate!

I need food to eat.  I want a lollipop!

I need shelter.  I want a fancy house!

                                             .

I like to play with toys.  I want a doll!

I want to play video games.

I want a friend to play with.  I want a sister.

We only need a few things to live, but we want a lot of things because it is fun!
