In ELA this week we were learning about editing. We are using the "Find it, Fix it," strategy. We created symbols to mark on our pages where we need to fix capitals, punctuation, and spelling. Then we practiced "finding and fixing" with our writing we did last week, making sure we "fix it" using a coloured pencil so that we can show how we are improving with our editing.
This week we also started planning for writing about a personal experience we have had. Next week will begin writing and learning about how to add descriptive words to make it more interesting.
We learned our last three graphemes this week. "ci" "si", and "ough", make sure to ask me what sounds these graphemes make! If you need a reminder or want to practice, check out the video in our Google Classroom. We also had our first dictation test on 15 of our two-letter graphemes.
In Math this week, we were practicing using our basic facts to help us add larger numbers. For example, if 2+3=5, then 12+3=15 and 32+3=35. Here is an open-ended math problem that we worked on today.
In Science this week, we began learning about magnets. We started by exploring objects around the room with our own magnets. Students noticed that magnets stuck to some metals, but not others. We also noticed that sometimes the magnets stick to each other and sometimes they push apart. We then learned that magnets have a north and south pole. North poles and south poles attract, and the same poles of two magnets will repel or push apart.
Here are a few fun videos to watch about magnets.
