Orange Shirt Day

All week long we have been reading stories about Orange Shirt day. We learned about residential schools and some of the things that happened there.  Here are some of the students' thoughts about the stories we heard.

"It is important to tell these stories so we can learn history"

"We learn about mistakes of the past, so we don't do it again."

"We learned that some kids died."

"I learned that their belongings, words and hair was taken from them."

"They were taken away from their parents, home and their life."

"The nuns didn't care if they were sad, or hungry, tired, or scared, injured or sick."

From these mistakes, we learned...

"It's important to celebrate day."

"we should take care of others."

"we should be nice to people."

"every child matters, even if you are an adult."

Yesterday as we discussed the Orange Shirt Day stories, a lot of feeling words came up.  We have created a display to show those feelings.  Take a look!
