Friday Blog ~ Dec. 18th

 Reminders:

Jan. 4-8th:  Online learning at home.

Jan. 11th:  PD Day ~ NO SCHOOL

Jan. 12th: Return to in-person learning (please return all home reading books and library books)

Jan. 13th:  Library Day

Remember to dress for the weather.  We go outside every day for recess, lunch recess and gym.

In ELA this week we made cards for various people in our school such as Mr. Whitton, Mr. Wamutete, and Mrs. Pullen.  The children learned about their jobs, drew pictures of them and wrote messages of appreciation.  The class was so excited to give them their cards, and they were received with much gratitude and appreciation.  We also learned 5 new phonograms.  We also learned more graphemes this week.  "igh" "ie", "kn", "gn" and "wr". make sure to ask me what sounds these graphemes make!  If you need a reminder or want to practice, check out the video in our Google Classroom.

In math this week we learned about how to read, interpret, and create bar graphs and pictographs.  Here is an example of a task we did.
Make a graph for each design. Show how many of each colour/shape you used.

Here is an example of a graph for the pattern designs on the previous slide

Looking at your graphs try answering these questions:

Design 1:

  • How many more blue parallelograms are there than green triangles?

  • How many more blocks are red trapezoids or blue parallelograms than yellow hexagons or green triangles?

  • How many blocks are green triangles?

In our Inquiry block have finished building our places for our Calgary timeline. We are now researching some of the people specific to that place and learning about their lives.

Ask me About:
  • Where do I hear these different sounds: "igh" "ie," "kn," "gn" and "wr"  Hint- think of the words sigh, chief, know, sign and write.  Can you think of any others?
  • Take some time to practice logging into Google Classroom, Iris, Raz Kids, and Prodigy.  This should be something we can start doing independently!  We will be doing it a lot the first week of January.
