Dear Grade 1 & 2 Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Cambrian Heights School Community! We are looking forward to seeing you on September 1 for the first day of school!

My name is Mrs. Andrews and I am one of the teachers on your child’s teaching team. I will be your child’s classroom responsibility teacher to begin the school year. The best way to contact me with questions is through email for now. I will be making a phone call to each family this week or next, and I hope to be able to talk to each family personally during the first two weeks of school. Once our face to face and online registration numbers are clarified, we will confirm your child’s responsibility teacher for the rest of the school year.

Please be sure that you have seen the staggered entry schedule posted on our website. To be ready for your child’s first day of school, please make sure your child knows my name and has seen my photo below. Writing my name on your child’s hand or on a backpack tag might be helpful so that they are able to locate me. All students will meet their teachers outside the school. If you are dropping off your child, please remember to practice physical distancing as you come to find me. I will be on the small field behind the playground. If your child takes the bus, we will have staff members help them find where to go.

We ask that when the bell rings, families say goodbye to their students for the day, so that we can take attendance. Parents will not be able to enter the school with their child. We will begin our learning as a group outside, so that classes can enter the school calmly, and with greater physical distancing. We will spend our first day together getting to know one another, and learning some of the new routines, such as handwashing, and distancing as much as we can.

Here are a few suggestions to help make back-to-school go smoothly:

  • Begin a good sleep schedule before the first day of school. Eat a good breakfast and send healthy snacks and lunch.
  • Practice hand washing and hand sanitizing at home. Students may bring a small personal hand sanitizer bottle for their desk. Please avoid products with strong scents. We also have sanitizer here.
  • If your child is able to wear a mask, practice wearing it, storing it, and taking it on and off safely (i.e. Using hand sanitizer, putting it in a clean place when not wearing it)
  • Bring a backpack that can hold as much of your child’s outdoor clothing as possible, and practice packing and unpacking the bag. Coat hook access will be limited.
  • For days with good weather, wear shoes that can remain on all day, and are good for physical activity (runners vs dress shoes).
  • There will be more learning outside this fall, so please bring hats and consider putting on sunscreen at home before school.
  • Pack lunches in sealable containers since uneaten food will be sent home with students. Please bring all your own utensils. Try to bring snacks that are healthy, easy to open, and can be eaten in a short time. Remind them not to share food, please.
  • Please do not send toys, athletic equipment, or extra school supplies from home. We have individual, cleanable pencil boxes for each student with all of the supplies they need.
  • We suggest bringing a water bottle that is full of water from home. Please make sure it is sealed tightly! Freezing it can help prevent spills in the backpack.
  • If your child takes the bus, please make sure they know the bus and stop. You might write this information on a card and keep it in the backpack.

Thank you families for all your support! We know things will look different at school this year. At Cambrian Heights, we know how important it will be to communicate with each other so that we can work together for a successful school re-entry! Please reach out if you have any questions at all.

If needed, we will be able to meet on Google Classroom.  Use your email and password for Google and then select Google Classroom from the array menu.  The code to join a meeting is:    rl3yblc

See you soon!
