er the "er" of her, ir the "er" of first, ur the "er" of nurse and wor the "er" of works.
Please check Google Classroom for weekly grapheme practice and word work.  Google Classroom

This week in writing we finished writing about Dinny the Dinosaur using the "I See, Think, Wonder," thinking routine.  We focused on explaining why we thought and wondered about things.

In Math we learned different mental math strategies that we can use when adding. We used various tools such as blocks, number lines and  the 100 chart to help us practice;
  • counting on
  • making 10
  • doubles
  • doubles plus 1
Then we practiced applying these strategies to solve various problems.  Check out some of our work.

Next week we will practice the same strategies but backwards when working on subtraction.

In Social Studies, we had a debate and listed all the pros and cons to changing Calgary's name.  Students then had the opportunity to reflect on what they learned and then decide again if our city's name should have been changed to Calgary over 135 years ago.

In Science we have been continuing our study of Small, Crawling, Flying Creatures. This week we researched our critter and wrote a short story from their perspective.  We also started creating the pages for our story using the style of Eric Carle.
