Graphemes and word lists for the Week of October 26-29th

 This week we started learning 2 letter graphemes.  We are focusing on the "r" controlled vowels and you can find the grapheme with gestures videos on my Google Classroom. Here are the graphemes for this week.

er: er the "er" of her.

ir: ir the "er" of first

ur: ur the "er" of nurse

wor: wor the "er" of works. 'o-r' may say "er" when w comes before the 'o-r'


Here are the words for the week that you can do with your child for home study.  See my Google Classroom under the tab "Parent Resources" for different ways to practice our sight words.

Red Group:  me, was, not, bird, fish

Blue Group: walk, jump, said, each, your

Purple Group: who, what, where, why, which,

 It's finally June.  In a few weeks, we will have a 2 month vacation! We have had a busy week this week. In ELA we have been working on writing about, "What would I do if I could stay up all night?" We practiced adding lots of details to our sentences.  Students have continues to practice doing our "Find it & Fix it" strategy for editing.   In Math we have reviewing measuring, specifically mass and calendar.  Students have engaged in centres and problem solving tasks about calendar and mass.  For our inquiry project we have been finishing our comic strip about the animal and its community. Students included how we can learn from the animals and care for the land. We shared how we can help the animals so that they can be around for a long time.  We also watch a series of videos about the Seven Sacred Laws. Dear  Grade 1 & 2 Families,   Welcome to the 2020-2021 Cambrian Heights School Community!    Reminders: September 24th and 25th are Parent Teacher Conferences .  They will be virtual conferences.  Please follow the link sent to you from the office to sign up.  Sign up closes on Monday the 21st at noon.  If you need help, please contact the office or myself (hlandrews@cbe.ab.ca) and we can help you book a conference.  October 1st is our first Spirit Day.  The students have chosen Pajama Day.  Students may wear a clean pair of pjs, but we ask that stuffies and toys stay at home. Here are some notable activities from the week: During Language Arts, we are reviewing the graphemes (letters with their sounds).  This is a good review for all students as they it helps them be more aware of letter sounds when they are reading and writing.  This week we reviewed the letters; a, c, d, f, and g.  Along with reviewing the letter names and sounds, we are also learning/reviewing how to print the letters properly so that their printing becomes more efficient.  Remember, we always start pr
