This week we worked on using different sentence starters and telling a story by putting pictures in order

  In Math we learned different mental math strategies that we can use when subtracting. We used various tools such as blocks, number lines and  the 100 chart to help us practice;
  • counting back
  • Fact families of:
    • making 10
    • doubles
    • doubles plus 1
Then we practiced applying these strategies to solve various problems.  Check out some of our work.

Today we looked at a math website called Prodigy.  Your child has been given an account and a password. I sent home all their login information for IRIS (computer username and password), Raz-Kids, Google Classroom, and Prodigy.  It is on a red laminated card.  Please ask your child to show you it and come up with a safe spot to keep it so it doesn't get lost at home.  They also have one in their desk to use at school as well.  The first tasks the students are to do on Prodigy after designing their avatar is a placement assessment, so please don't offer help except with reading and giving the meaning of a word.

In Social Studies, we discussed what makes good questions. We learned that using who, what, when, where, why and how are good ways to start a questions.  Next week we will be researching the history of the Elbow River and Fort Calgary.

In Science we have been continuing our study of Small, Crawling, Flying Creatures. This week we finished our stories about our insects.

Ask Me About

  • What strategy do I prefer to use when I am subtracting?
  • My insect story.
  • Show you my login card and practice logging in to Google Classroom, Raz-Kids and Prodigy.
