In Math we continued working a open-ended word problems and practicing showing our work. Students are also given a choice of selecting hard, harder, or hardest level word problems. This allows students to work with numbers that are at their level as the open-endedness gives them some choice of numbers to use with some guidelines. Here is a sample problem at the different levels.

Hard:  Charlie sees 2 buckets of pencils in his classroom. They both have the same amount of pencils. what could be the total amount of pencils that Charlie counts in the classroom? Find at least 3 different answers. Show your work.

Harder: Charlie sees 3 buckets of pencils in his classroom. Each bucket has the same amount of pencils. What could be the total amount of pencils that Charlie counts in the classroom? Find at least 3 different answers. Show your work.

Hardest: Charlie sees 3 buckets of pencils in his classroom. Each bucket has the same amount of pencils in them and there are more than 7 pencils in each bucket. What could be the total amount of pencils that Charlie counts in the classroom? Find at least 3 different answers. Show your work.

In Social Studies, we have been researching about Fort Calgary past and present, and the confluence of the Bow and Elbow River past and present. Students have been practicing logging on to computers and Google Classroom to access information.  Look in the Social Studies tab on Google Classroom to review what we have learned.

This week we read a book called, "A Poppy is to Remember,"  and learned why we wear poppies on Remembrance Day.  We then created some Remembrance Day art by using pastels to draw a field we of poppies.  Students learned about perspective and that things that are close to us appear bigger and things that are far away appear smaller.  Check out their work. They did a great job!
