Feb. 11-13:  Teachers' Convention ~ NO SCHOOL

Feb. 16th:  Family Day ~ NO SCHOOL

Remember to dress for the weather.  We go outside every day for recess, lunch recess and gym.

This year we will not be exchanging Valentines due to COVID-19 protocols. We will acknowledge Valentine's Day in the classroom and do some academic tasks around it. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

This week in ELA we focused on adding descriptive details to our writing by using our five senses.  We learned about the 4 different types of sentences and what end punctuation goes with them.  They are a statement, question, command, and exclamatory. We also worked on our editing goal of "Find it & FIx it." Students had to check their work for capitals and punctuation in the right places.  They also checked for spelling of their "No Excuse" sight words. Please look on their IRIS account for their writing sample from this week.  You can Google IRIS CBE, then use their computer user name, which is their student ID number, and their computer password.

This week in Math we reviewed different strategies that we can use to help us add or subtract more than 2 numbers. We practiced finding numbers that made 10, finding doubles, and near doubles. Then we applied these strategies to a calculations assessment.  This can also been seen on IRIS.

In Science we continued exploring our magnet centres. We saw what a magnetic field looks like and reviewed the terms, "attract," and "repel." Here is a fun video to watch about magnets.

Can I take a metal object out of a cup without touching it?
                                                                        magnet races
                                                                       painting with magnets

In Social Studies we are wrapping up our inquiry project about, "How do we honour the stories of the past?" Students reflected upon what they learned about the various landmarks they studied and the people who lived there.

Ask Me About

  • What are the 4 different types of sentences and what type of punctuation do they need?
  • How am I improving editing my writing?
