 This week in ELA we were working on adding descriptive details to add interest to our events in our stories. We are trying to stretch out our ideas so an event is more than 1-2 sentences long. Here are a few examples of some of their work.  




This week in math we were learning about equality and inequality. We discussed how the = sign means the same.   We practiced labelling and making equations that were equal and not equal. 

In Science this week we did a few S.T.E.A.M challenges where students had to create towers using materials with different specifications.  Our first challenge was the Cat in the Hat challenge.  Students had to build the tallest tower they could with red cups (the Cat's hat).  


Our second challenge was the One cube challenge.  Students had to build towers that balanced on ONE cube!  Here are their results!

 It's finally June.  In a few weeks, we will have a 2 month vacation! We have had a busy week this week. In ELA we have been working on writing about, "What would I do if I could stay up all night?" We practiced adding lots of details to our sentences.  Students have continues to practice doing our "Find it & Fix it" strategy for editing.   In Math we have reviewing measuring, specifically mass and calendar.  Students have engaged in centres and problem solving tasks about calendar and mass.  For our inquiry project we have been finishing our comic strip about the animal and its community. Students included how we can learn from the animals and care for the land. We shared how we can help the animals so that they can be around for a long time.  We also watch a series of videos about the Seven Sacred Laws. Dear  Grade 1 & 2 Families,   Welcome to the 2020-2021 Cambrian Heights School Community!   Reminders October 9th: PD Day - NO SCHOOL October 12th:  Thanksgiving - NO SCHOOL October 14th:  Picture Day October 29th:  Costume Day October 30th:  PD Day - NO SCHOOL Parents, it might be a good idea to put a change of clothes in the bottom of your child's backpack so that if an accident happens, they have something to change into.  Sometimes the children are too busy playing in gym or at recess, and by the time they realize they need to go to the bathroom, it's too late.   Next week your child will bring home 1 library book and a bag of home reading books.  Please keep the home reading books at home all week and have your child practice reading their books several times.  This allows them to practice fluency and expression.
