Apr. 28th:  Spirit Day ~ Technology/Coding Day

This week in ELA we were learning how to make our writing more clear by focusing on the parts of a sentence. We created a visual as a class and then practiced writing sentences following the criteria.  We will continue to do work on this for the next few weeks as part of our learning cycle. Next week we will look a picture prompts and practice writing clear sentences about the pictures.

This week in math we revisiting addition. Grade one students are working on adding 2 digit plus 1 digit numbers using various strategies such as counting on or base ten blocks. Grade 2 students were working on adding 2 digit plus 2 digit numbers focusing on how to use the traditional algorithm to show regrouping.  They also used base ten blocks to solidify the understanding of regrouping.  Next week will be practicing these skills more through open ended math problems.

Inquiry:  This week during out inquiry block students reviewed what they have learned about the various perspectives (land, people, plants and animals, long ago) of the different Canadian communities in preparation for a debate about which community is the best.  We listened to a pod cast debate about cats vs, dogs so students could understand what a debate was.  They have chosen their community and are now working in their groups to prepare material too present to the class why their community is the best.

Ask Me About
  • Practice my basic addition facts up to 20 (we will be doing a quick check in this week)
  • Explain which Canadian community I think is the best and why.
